Since the workshop is completely online, you will need a workspace and a computer to work from. When it comes to the workshop materials, we will provide you with the essentials, and we will also send you a list of the additional materials you might want to purchase.

The entire amount needs to be paid online through one transaction. You can request to pay through invoice as an individual or as a legal entity.

You can choose to work in Robofont, Glyphs, or in Fontlab. We will provide you with the temporary licenses and teach the basics for all of those softwares. We will help you to get comfortable in any of them. Our instructors are fluid within these softwares, and we are perfectly capable of helping you resolve any issues or answer any questions you might have.

The answer is yes! We will show you three different softwares, one of which, FontLab, will be perfect for the PC. The other two, Robofont and Glyphs, can be used for working on Mac.

A variable font is simply a new format. Type designers have been drawing types using “variable” principles since 1992. A variable typeface can be created in either Robofont, Glyphs, or Fontlab—the only difference is the generation process. During our summer Type Design Workshops we go over the basic work principles of working on a typeface consisting of several styles. The process of a variable font creation is complex. We will tell you about all the specifics, will go over the examples and point out what you need to focus on comparable typefaces for the creation of a variable font. Our goal is to provide you with more than just formal skills, it is to see within. It won’t make much of a difference whether or not you choose to focus on a variable typeface.
